Report: AJ Styles Suffers Separated Shoulder At WWE Royal Rumble

AJ Styles' elimination didn't quite go as planned.

During Sunday night's WWE Royal Rumble, Styles was eliminated by Edge in what looked to be a confusing fashion met by bewilderment from stars in the ring.

PWInsider reports that Styles sustained an arm injury at the Royal Rumble after taking a spear from the returning Edge. Styles would then be holding his left arm after landing awkwardly on his shoulder, before being eliminated. As Fightful Select reported early Monday morning, this elimination was an audible and did not go as originally intended.

Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer reports Styles suffered a separated shoulder as a result of the spot. The severity of the injury is unknown.

You can see the spear below.

A referee started communication with Edge before he eliminated Styles. After, medical personnel tended to Styles and he was later examined before icing his shoulder in a wrap. He'll be evaluated again, and will also undergo tests in order to diagnose the injury.

Styles' fellow member of the OC Karl Anderson was already in the ring while Styles got thrown out, and Luke Gallows would end up joining the fray shorty after. They'd be tossed out by Rated RKO.
