Earlier this week, it was reported that WWE is looking to expand into the Indian market with a brand known as NXT India and now, there are more details regarding the future of that project.
WWE is always looking to expand. In recent years they have expanded through their developmental system known as NXT. NXT branched off with a new brand in the continent of Europe known as NXT UK. Now, WWE is hoping to launch a new generation of Indian Superstars through NXT India but their initial tapings may be on United States soil.
According to a report from Sportskeeda, the initial tournament to launch the NXT India brand will take place at the WWE Performance Center in Orlando, Florida. This is due to the current travel restrictions because of the global coronavirus pandemic. In addition, it is also being reported that the potential launch date for the brand will be on January 26th, the day that India celebrates Republic Day.
Reportedly, the initial event will feature talents such as former WWE champion Jinder Mahal, The Singh Brothers, Indus Sher, Jeet Rama, and one or more of the three recruits signed by the company after the tryouts in Mumbai Gurvinder Singh, Sukhwinder Grewal, or Laxmi Kant Rajpoot.
There is also a belief that if the world normalizes soon enough, a fully functional WWE Performance Center will launch in India by the year 2022.
Furthering its expansion, WWE is also looking to add NXT Asia. A brand featuring talents from locations such as Japan, China, and Singapore.
Fightful will continue to monitor the story and report any and all updates.
