The report states that the Khans have had no talks regarding the matter with McMahon or WWE CEO Nick Khan. The report also makes it clear, "The idea that Vince McMahon, the controlling shareholder of WWE, would merge his company with the much smaller AEW is a long shot."

WWE is reportedly exploring a sale of the company before renewing its TV rights, which expire in 2024. WWE put out a press release on Thursday evening announcing they have "engaged outside advisors to support review of strategic alternatives," mentioning that media rights negotiations are coming up.

In the press release it is said, "WWE does not intend to comment further until the process has concluded or the Company has otherwise determined that further disclosure is appropriate or required."

On Thursday, Barron's, a sister publication to the Wall Street Journal, reported the Khan family was 'in the pool' of potential suitors looking to buy WWE.

Fightful will continue to update fans on WWE's potential sale when more information is known.
