On Tuesday, January 2, 2023, WWE hosted a new episode of NXT on the USA Network.

NXT New Year's Evil (1/2/2023).
- After a video package recapping the card for tonight's show, Booker T & Vic Joseph welcomed the audience to the show before transitioning into the opening match.
- NXT Women's Championship Match: Lyra Valkyria (c) def. Blair Davenport.
- Lola Vice tried to cash in her shot at the title, but she was attacked by Tatum Paxley. Valkyria & Paxley brawled with Elektra Lopez & Lola Vice before referees stopped the match.
- Kelly Kincaid revealed that Ilja Dragunov was not cleared to compete, cancelling the match.
- Carlito, Joaquin Wilde & Cruz Del Toro def. No Quarter Catch Crew (Drew Gulak, Damon Kemp, & Myles Borne).
- Trick Williams & Carmelo Hayes were interviewed backstage before they were interrupted by Grayson Waller. After some trash-talking, Hayes offered Waller a shot at Williams’s #1 Contendership, which Waller accepted. Williams was bamboozled.
- There was a video package of Riley Osbourne, where he promised to win the Men's Breakout Tourney and become the next big European Superstar in WWE.
- Arianna Grace def. Roxanne Perez.
- Arianna Grace shouted at Perez that she had issues after the match, which led to Perez attacking Grace. Perez locked in the Crossface on Grace before referees came in to separate them. The referee inexplicably changed the decision of the match due to the attack, giving Grace the match.
- Ava revealed to Kelly Kincaid backstage that the NXT Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic will begin next week.
- Nikkita Lyons & Blair Davenport had an argument backstage before multiple producers & referees separated them.
- Ranch Hand or Servant Match: Fallon Henley def. Tiffany Stratton.
- Baron Corbin spoke to Bron Breakker backstage, where he proposed to Breakker the chance to team up for the Dusty Rhodes Classic. After much thought, Breakker accepted the offer.
- There was a video package promoting Oba Femi for his match against Riley Osbourne later in the night.
- Cora Jade argued backstage with Gigi Dolin because Dolin sat in Jade’s locker. The women’s roster separated them.
- Backstage, Sarah Schreiber interviewed Ridge Holland, where he spoke about his injury mishaps since joining WWE, including his knee injury in NXT, his broken nose in WWE Day One & injuring Ilja Dragunov off a spike brain buster.
- NXT Men's Breakout Tournament - Finals: Oba Femi def. Riley Osborne.
- OTM had a video package backstage, where they promised to win the. NXT Tag Titles from The Family.
- Kiana James & Izzy Dame were interviewed backstage by Kelly Kincaid, where they promised to make 2024 their year.
- Trick Williams scolded Carmelo Hayes for putting his title shot on the line. Williams asked Hayes to stay in the back for his match against Grayson Waller.
- Thea Hail & Jacy Jayne spoke backstage before Andre Chase & Duke Hudson interrupted. Jayne scolded Chase for not handling Chase University. Jayne announced that she entered Duke Hudson & Riley Osbourne into the Dusty Rhodes Classic.
- Tatum Paxley & Lya Valkyria had a segment backstage, where Paxley said that as long as Valkyria was still champion, all was right in the world. This weirded out Valkyria.
- Axiom & Nathan Frazer spoke backstage, where they agreed to be a tag team for the NXT Dusty Rhodes Classic. Edris Enofe & Malik Blade interrupted them and said that they were not a real tag team & that they were going to lose.
- The Family (Adrianna Rizzo & NXT Tag Team Champions Channing "Stacks" Lorenzo & Tony D'Angelo) cut a promo backstage in a parking lot, where D'Angelo said that Andre Chase was not off the hook yet. Joe Gacy randomly popped out of the trunk of their car, where Gacy told The Family that he dealt with "the body".
- NXT Championship - #1 Contender's Match: Trick Williams def. Grayson Waller.
- The finish came when Carmelo Hayes came to the ring to distract the referee. While the referee, Hayes & Williams argued, this allowed Kevin Owens to make his NXT Return and punch Waller in the jaw. Owens tossed Waller back in the ring, which allowed Williams to hit the Busaiku Knee for the win. Williams stood tall to end the broadcast.
