WWE SmackDown (5/3/2024) Results: Cody Rhodes & AJ Styles Face-to-Face, R-KO Show Debut, More Set

On May 3, 2024, WWE hosted a new episode of Friday Night SmackDown from the LDLC Arena in Lyon-Décines, France on Fox.

The show was headlined by Cody Rhodes meeting AJ Styles in a Face-to-Face. The full results are listed below.

  • Corey Graves & Wade Barrett welcomed the audience to the broadcast airing from Lyon, France before transitioning into the opening match.
  • Bianca Belair, Naomi, Jade Cargill & WWE Women's Champion Bayley def. Tiffany Stratton & Damage CTRL (Dakota Kai and WWE Women's Tag Team Champions Asuka & Kairi Sane) via Pinfall (Kiss of Death).
  • The WWE Tag Team Champions A-Town Down Under (Grayson Waller & Austin Theory) cut a promo backstage, where they said that they were The Smoke the Street Profits wanted and declared that they would retain the titles tonight.
  • Bianca Belair & Jade Cargill were interviewed backstage by Kayla Braxton while Bayley & Naomi were also in the room. Belair declared that she wanted to end things between herself and Damage CTRL once and for all. Belair said she would go after Bayley once she was done with Damage CTRL.
  • Carmelo Hayes met with Nick Aldis to say he was declaring himself for the King of The Ring Tournament. Bobby Lashley then interrupted and announced that he also was entering the King of the Ring tournament. Lashley then asked Hayes if he wanted any advice, but Hayes said he would be good. Lashley then warns Hayes saying he should be wary about who he disrespects.
  • Authors of Pain (Akam & Rezar) (w/ Scarlett, Karrion Kross & Paul Ellering) def. New Catch Republic (Tyler Bate & Pete Dunne) via Pinfall (Suplex/Powerbomb Combination).
  • Paul Heyman met with Nick Aldis backstage, where Aldis decisively rejected Heyman’s inquiry to remove Kevin Owens & Randy Orton from their match against The Bloodline (Tama Tonga & Solo Sikoa) before asking if that was a question from The Tribal Chief. Heyman then said that he had not spoken with Roman Reigns since WrestleMania XL, which left Aldis bamboozled before Heyman revealed that he was the one that pulled Roman Reigns out of the WWE Draft, citing that he could not object Roman Reigns to the chaos happening with The Bloodline before asking Aldis once again to remove Kevin Owens & Randy Orton of the match but Aldis told Heyman to tell them himself.
  • Kevin Owens & Randy Orton hosted the debut episode of the R-KO Show, where they put over the Lyon crowd for their love tonight. Owens said he started receiving a flurry of calls from Paul Heyman asking him to be a guest because he had something important to tell them. Paul Heyman then appeared and declared himself as WWE's Wiseman. Heyman said that he understood why Owens & Orton did not trust a man like himself with little shame before admitting that he wanted Roman Reigns back.
    Heyman said that he respected Orton & Owens as competitors but the rules with Solo Sikoa & Tama Tonga were different before begging them to back out of their match against Tonga & Sikoa at WWE Backlash. Owens and Orton disregarded his advice and Orton asked who was the real Tribal Chief, which led to Solo Sikoa & Tama Tonga attacking Orton & Owens from behind. Petey Williams, Shane Helms, Jamie Noble, and an army of referees and producers separated the four men before Owens hit a Tope Con Giro on Tonga & Sikoa.
  • The Street Profits (Montez Ford & Angelo Dawkins) cut a promo backstage promising to lay a whooping on A-Town Down Under and regain the WWE Tag Team Championships.
  • LA Knight def. Angel Garza (w/ Santos Escobar, Elektra Lopez & Berto Carrillo) via Pinfall (BFT).
    • LA Knight cut a promo after the match, where he said that he would make the canvas his ring before announcing that he was entering the King of The Ring tournament. Santos Escobar then interrupted and announced that he was also entering the King of The Ring Tourney before saying he would be busy winning the tourney while LA Knight kept yapping. Knight said it would be Escobar's biggest mistake and make the crowd chant "LA KNIGHT, YEAH".
  • Carlito was interviewed by Byron Saxton, who said he took offense with Rey Mysterio choosing Dragon Lee instead of himself. Dragon Lee attacked Carlito backstage, where he called him a traitor.
  • WWE Tag Team Championship Match: A-Town Down Under (Grayson Waller & Austin Theory) (c) def. Street Profits (Montez Ford & Angelo Dawkins) via Pinfall (Rolling Flatliner).
  • AJ Styles and the WWE Undisputed Champion Cody Rhodes came to the ring for their face-to-face, where Styles said that Rhodes was not focused on their title match before saying that their paths were not the same as he was given the road to success due to his family success. Styles then said that Rhodes initially left WWE because things did not go how he wanted, which was different to what Styles had to go through as he had to prove himself at every point. Styles then said that he did not need help from legends and declared he would win the title at WWE Backlash.
    Rhodes then told Styles not to disparage everything he had achieved in his past and said that Styles would still be phenomenal before saying that he was looking at Styles as his first challenger. Styles and Rhodes went for the "Too Sweet" gesture, but Styles slapped Rhodes's face before leaving the ring.
  • Randy Orton & Kevin Owens continued to brawl backstage with Tama Tonga & Solo Sikoa while Shane Helms and an army of referees tried to stop them. Total chaos ensued as the broadcast came to a close.
