Rey and Dominic reflect.
The year 2005 presented a featured storyline on WWE's SmackDown brand consisting of the real-life best friends Rey Mysterio and Eddie Guerrero. The two feuded on WWE TV over who was the father of Rey's real-life son Dominic. The blow-off to their feud occurred at the 2005 SummerSlam PPV in Washington D.C. which saw Rey and Eddie go one-on-one in a Ladder match with the winner gaining full custody of Dominic. Rey emerged victorious in the match and on top of Rey and Eddie executing a storyline, at the age of 13-years old Dominic was able to make his WWE television debut. Fast forward to present day and Dominic is now being trained by his father to become a professional wrestler and is in the process of gearing up to have his first match.
While Rey Mysterio was being interviewed by Bill Apter and Josh Shernoff on the 'Apter Chat' podcast, Rey brought Dominic into the conversation who just so happened to be sitting right next to him while the interview was going on and the father-and-son duo reflected on that storyline from 2005 with the late great WWE Hall Of Famer Eddie Guerrero.
Dominic: “For me personally it was definitely an experience. I remember being in third grade when we were doing this angle, and I remember going back to school and people started asking me who was picking me up. Was it my dad Rey, or was it my dad Eddie. It was definitely an interesting experience.” Dominic said.
Rey Mysterio: “And I think too young at the time to really soak it in, and realize what he was involved in. But for me, to able to to share the ring with my son and with one of my best friends, and not only share it, but be emotional, in every sense of the way. How many dads get an opportunity to bring their kid to work, but not only to work, but to come to work and to be on TV and to travel the world and to make money. He was making money at that age so they were paying him which you know… everything panned out the way it should’ve been thanks to Eddie because I believe Eddie and… Who helped Eddie with the story? Oh my God I went blank. Anyways I know Eddie had a lot to do with how the angle panned out”. He stated.
