Rey Mysterio appeared on the January 17 episode of WWE Friday Night SmackDown.
Rey Mysterio kicked off the episode of SmackDown in his home of San Diego to declare that he would be entering the 2025 WWE Royal Rumble. He would soon be interrupted by the would-be WWE Champion, Kevin Owens, who is still carrying the iconic Winged Eagle WWE Championship belt.
Kevin Owens said he has a great deal of respect for Rey Mysterio. He says there's not much more for him to do in WWE than wrestle Rey and that he's rooting for Rey Mysterio to win the Royal Rumble so they can fight for the WWE Championship. Mysterio told Kevin he was not the real champion, but that if he wins at the Royal Rumble and Mysterio wins the Rumble, he would challenge him.
Kevin Owens got upset that Mysterio called him delusional and tried to attack him, but Rey got the better of him, so Kevin scrambled and ranted his way back up the ramp.
