Ricky Starks comments on his upcoming bout with CM Punk.
Ricky Starks will meet CM Punk on the July 15 episode of AEW Collision in the final of the Owen Hart Foundation Tournament finals. Starks has shared the ring with Chris Jericho and MJF since the start of the year, and Punk is another top name for Ricky to compete against.
Speaking on the Big Show with Rusic & Rose on Sportsnet, Starks commented on the bout.
"There are people who look at certain figures in wrestling as, 'Oh, this guy.' They put them on a pedestal, basically. To me, I am shoulder-to-shoulder with CM Punk in my head. We are equals. One thing that I do want to get across to Punk and everyone else. Regardless of what has been done in someone's career and what has been done in AEW, the fact will remain is that I am a person that can stand on my own. I can stand shoulder to shoulder with anyone and I can go toe-to-toe with any single person, microphone or in the ring, and I feel I've proven that with MJF and with Chris Jericho. I don't see this being any different with Punk," he said.
Starks and Punk, along with FTR (Dax Harwood & Cash Wheeler) teamed on the June 24 episode of AEW Collision.
Starks defeated Powerhouse Hobbs and Juice Robinson in the Owen Hart Foundation tournament to get to the finals.
Fightful will have coverage of AEW Collision beginning at 8 p.m. ET on Saturday.
