Roman Reigns Defeats Brock Lesnar To Become The New WWE Universal Champion

"The Big Dog" has finally become champion.

This match tonight has been building up for three years. The rivalry between Roman Reigns and Brock Lesnar kick-started at WrestleMania 31 when Roman and Brock clashed over the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. Roman’s championship aspirations were put on hold as Seth Rollins cashed-in his Money In The Bank contract to steal the World Title in the first-ever cash-in at a WrestleMania. The story between Roman and Brock picked up again two years later when Brock Lesnar pinned Roman Reigns in the main-event of last year’s SummerSlam PPV in a Fatal 4-Way match where the Universal Championship was on the line. This past April at WrestleMania 34, Brock defeated Roman once again to retain the Universal Championship and did so once again just a few weeks after WrestleMania in a Steel Cage match at the ‘Greatest Royal Rumble’ event in Saudi Arabia.

Roman Reigns has been claiming that he is the uncrowned Universal Champion for months and constantly speaking about how Brock Lesnar does not care about being a part of the WWE and as of recently, Paul Heyman has used his persuasion tactics to bait Reigns into thinking that he was going to be on his side after a “disagreement” between Heyman and his client Brock Lesnar. “The Big Dog” was fooled by Heyman once but went into this match tonight with a different mindset as he challenged Brock Lesnar for the fourth time with a championship belt on the line.

Before the match began, "The Monster Among Men" Braun Strowman came down to the ring to announce that the winner of the Universal Championship match was going to be facing him right after the match was over.

The action in this bout started off hot as Reigns and Lesnar immediately took the fight to one another to make the other man's respective trip to Brooklyn a disappointing one. Roman Reigns started the match off with the upper hand on Brock Lesnar and Lesnar returned the favor. The action spilled out to the outside which is where "Mr. Monster In The Bank" was awaiting his opponent. Brock Lesnar decided to take matters into his own hands and take Strowman out but when Lesnar returned to the ring he was met with a "spear" from "The Big Dog" and after being defeated by Brock Lesnar four times, Roman Reigns got one over on Brock and is now the new WWE Universal Champion.
