Sami Zayn gives Pretty Deadly credit, and Kevin Owens comments on his apparent injury.
On the June 30 episode of WWE SmackDown, Zayn and Owens defeated Pretty Deadly (Elton Prince and Kit Wilson) to retain the WWE Undisputed Tag Team Championship. In the closing moments, Owens seemingly hurt his ankle, and many fans were concerned about the potential injury.
In a SmackDown Exclusive, the champions commented on their victory. Zayn praised Pretty Deadly and took issue with the way Owens focused too much on their size. He noted that they were deceptively big.
Sami Zayn: Honestly, I know people can easily look at them and get distracted by the fact that look, they’re here. Means they’re on a certain level to be here, and they’re the number one contenders for the tag team titles, means you have to be at a certain level. It’s very easy sight of that, the disco ball, and the song.
Kevin Owens: Deceptively big gentlemen. They’re big guys. They’re tall, they’re broad-shouldered.
SZ: Heavy. A little heavy when I picked them up.
KO: Too heavy. Trying to pick you up here. Of course he’s fighting against the-
SZ: I’m not gonna get into the weight thing here. I don’t want to touch that one. What I’m getting at is that they’re deceptively good.
KO: Big.
Zayn then stated that they got the job done before he noted that Owens may have been dinged up. Owens stated that he smashed his ankle and wondered whether he should stop doing it, as he hurts himself every time. Zayn disagreed, but Owens made it clear that the ropes are painful when he does it.
SZ: I think we took care of what we had to do. We retained the tag team championship, and we look to do it another day. I think he’s a little dinged up.
KO: My ankle, smashed my ankle on that cannonball. Maybe I should stop doing it.
SZ: No, everybody loves that move.
KO: I know, but it hurts me every single time. Should I not learn?
SZ: I like this though.
KO: This is months and months and months. It happens, the top rope. Lethal, underrated weapon, the top rope. You know we always hit the guys’ head on the buckles? We ought to start hitting them on the ropes. Those things are harder than the buckles. Anyway, yeah, we won. We retained. Really all that matters.
Owens later noted that he needed to go get ankle treatment. As the interview came to an end, he and Zayn then went off to go see the trainer.
