Shaquille O'Neal Promises AEW Bout Will Top All Past Celebrity Wrestling Matches

Shaquille O'Neal is ready to prove himself in the wrestling ring.

On Wednesday, March 3, Shaq will team with Jade Cargill in a mixed tag team match against Cody Rhodes & Red Velvet. Though Shaq has been involved with wrestling since he appeared alongside Hulk Hogan in WCW in 1994, he has only wrestled once at WrestleMania 32 in the André the Giant Memorial Battle Royal.

Speaking to the Associated Press, Shaq discussed his upcoming AEW Dynamite match.

“Oh, I’m winning,” O’Neal said. “Guaranteed. I’m the type, I can never back down from a challenge. I’m not a professional wrestler, but I’ve been in a match before. I’ve got a lot of moves in my arsenal. When you step inside somebody’s world, you have to stick to what you’re masterful at. I’m not acrobatic. I’m not going to be jumping off the ropes. I’m coming with the power game. When I get hands on him, I’m going to display this power. I’m the type that if I have a look and see you do it, I got it."

Shaq also mentioned wanting to get his hands on The Big Show (Paul Wight), who recently signed with AEW. A match between Shaq and Wight was proposed for WrestleMania 33 after the two stood face-to-face in the WrestleMania 32 battle royal, but the match ultimately fell through.

Shaq closed by saying, “This one will top them all,” when comparing his upcoming match to past athlete/celebrity bouts, which have included the likes of Lawrence Taylor, Floyd Mayweather, Dennis Rodman, and Karl Malone.

Fightful will have live coverage of AEW Dynamite beginning at 8 p.m. ET on Wednesday.
