Leg slaps have become commonplace in wrestling with the majority of wrestlers using the technique when throwing a kick or a knee.
Randy Orton has joked about how often NXT wrestlers use leg slaps and according to Fightful Select, there is a sign that reads “NO THIGH SLAPPING” at WWE events. The Wrestling Observer reported wrestlers were being fined for using the technique.
While Shawn Michaels didn't invent the leg slap, he often used it when throwing a superkick and is part of the NXT agent/production team. Speaking to the New York Post, Michaels gave his thoughts on the technique.
"Clearly I look back and I go, OK I did it. I just did one. I’m always of the cloth, I can remember when I started people telling me too fast, too much, too this and there’s a balance there. They were right in some respects and at the same time, the business also evolves and changes. Football isn’t played the same. Basketball isn’t played the same, so I don’t know. I’m somebody that embraces those changes. I feel like somewhere in the middle and balance is so important. I appreciate the style of today. I appreciate the athleticism of the performers of today. Are they perfect? No. But neither were we," he said.
It was a big night for NXT on Wednesday with William Regal making two announcements, including the introduction of the NXT Women's Tag Team Titles.
