Sheamus To Gunther: Keep The WWE Intercontinental Title Warm For Me

Sheamus teases that he has his sights set on WWE Intercontinental Champion Gunther.

Sheamus and Gunther feuded for several months in 2022. They memorably faced each other at WWE Clash at the Castle, where Gunther beat Sheamus to retain the title. The two stars clashed again on the October 7, 2022, episode of WWE SmackDown. Sheamus seemingly made Gunther tap out, but the referee waved it off. Gunther went on to win the match, and he later denied that he tapped out. Gunther also beat Sheamus and Drew McIntyre at WWE WrestleMania 39.

Gunther's reign now sits at nearly 600 days. He beat Kofi Kingston to retain the gold on the January 29 episode of WWE Raw. He then took to Twitter and commented on the win, as he called himself the greatest Intercontinental Champion of all time.

Sheamus replied to the post and told Gunther to keep the title warm for him. He said that he wanted the championship to be spit-shined, and he reminded Gunther that he tapped.

Sheamus has not wrestled since the August 18, 2023, episode of WWE SmackDown. In September, Dae Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer reported that Sheamus was dealing with a "really bad" shoulder injury, and the former WWE Champion subsequently posted a picture in which he could be seen wearing a neck brace.

It is not known when Sheamus will return to WWE programming. Fightful will provide more information as it becomes available.
