Shinsuke Nakamura reflects on facing Great Muta (Keiji Muto).
Nakamura is currently under contract with WWE, and before he faced Great Muta at Pro Wrestling NOAH The New Year 2023, he hadn't wrestled for NOAH since 2013. The buzzworthy clash between Nakamura and Muta was particularly meaningful, as the latter is on his retirement tour. In the main event of the show, Nakamura defeated Great Muta by using his own mist against him.
Speaking with Tokyo Sports, Nakamura reflected on the match. He noted that, once it was over, he woke up and thought the match had been a dream. The WWE star also stated that he was able to show what he could to do the entire wrestling world.
"I guess the best way to describe it is that it was really my first dream. When I woke up this morning, I was horrified and thought, maybe it really was a dream… I haven’t had a match yet, have I? I was horrified. I was really able to expose myself to the world, from the moment I entered the ring to the moment I left," Nakamura said.
Nakamura also noted that WWE Chief Content Officer Paul Levesque (Triple H) sent Nakamura a support message and told him he's glad he got what he wanted. Moving forward, Nakamura made it clear that Keiji Muto and The Great Muta are in his wrestling blood, and he wants to incorporate that into his style.
"For sure, Keiji Muto and The Great Muta have entered my blood as a wrestler. I would like to incorporate what I feel in my body into my own style," Nakamura said.
Nakamura also made it clear that he'll be watching Keiji Muto's retirement match on February 21.
In a recent interview, Nakamura described how WWE initially didn't give him permission to face Great Muta, but Triple H later allowed him to do so. Click here to see what he had to say.
