Sonya Deville has already made a lot of firsts in WWE.
As noted on the season premiere of Total Divas, Sonya Deville is both the first female MMA fighter in WWE, and the first openly gay female wrestler in the company. As also seen on the show, she was looking to take that a step further on-screen.
Sonya and her tag team partner Mandy Rose, collectively known as Fire & Desire, pitched an LGBTQ storyline, and it was highlighted in a preview clip for the series, but not featured on the actual premiere.
"I'm going through this kind of evolution process in my life where I'm coming into my own and figuring out who I want to be," said Sonya on the episode. "I'm starting to feel comfortable with who I am. I'm finding my style and it's a great feeling. Mandy and I are meeting with the producers to pitch the first-ever LGBTQ storyline in the WWE. This is Mandy and I's moment -- this is where we prove ourselves. The story of my life. I'm the comeback kid. I always start as the underdog, but I'm confident that I'll prevail."
Thus far the storyline hasn't come to fruition on WWE programming.
