Sonya Deville explains how she came up with her ring name in WWE.
Deville, real name Daria Rae Berenato, debuted in WWE as part of Tough Enough, and later joined the NXT roster, eventually being called up to the WWE main roster. Deville is currently a member of Pure Fusion Collective on Monday Night RAW alongside Shayna Baszler and Zoey Stark.
While speaking during a recent appearance on PIX11 News, Deville was asked how she came up with her ring name, noting that she had inspiration from Mortal Kombat.
"So it's a process different for everybody. You kind of make a list of names. You submit it to creative and the powers that be. They give you a list of names and you kind of go back and forth until you find something that makes everybody happy. It's actually a funny story. My name was supposed to be NJ Deville at one point, standing for New Jersey Devil, because my MMA fight name was The Jersey Devil. But at the time I was like, I don't want my first name to be NJ. I don't think, let's think of something else, and I loved Mortal Kombat and Sonya, so Sonya Deville it became."
In another recent interview, Sonya explained her goals for 2025 in WWE. You can read more about that here.
