Carolina Panthers legend Steve Smith Sr. wanted to pay tribute to Ric Flair, but he was a little too small.
Though Smith's stature never got in the way of him making plays on the football field, it worked against him when he wanted to transform into The Nature Boy.
Speaking on his Cut To It during an interview with Charlotte Flair, Smith recalled purchasing s Ric Flair robe that has minimal use.
"I was doing an event and Ric was at the event and I bought his robe. I bought Ric Flair's robe for like $5,000. I have put it on. One reason why there is not a picture...Ric is not extremely tall, but I'm not extremely short. That robe makes me feel a little uncomfortable. It's a little too big. I feel like the Little Nature Boy. It's so huge. I feel so small. I bought it and it was cool, I think I had a glass or two at the event. It was a great idea. When I sobered up, I put it on a couple days later...my wife goes, 'Where are you going to wear that?' 'I don't know, it's so big!' When I bought it Jake [Delhomme] was like, 'You should wear the robe coming out of the tunnel.' I couldn't do it, even with my pads on. It's still too big," said Smith.
Smith spent 13 years with the Panthers and remains part of the team as a television broadcaster.
Ric Flair is set to appear at NWA 73.
