As announced on the official Twitter account for AEW, Cody and Brandi Rhodes are set to debut a brand new TNT original series called Rhodes to the Top. The highly anticipated all-new Reality TV series promises to give fans an inside glimpse into the spectacularly complex lives of the power couple of AEW, and all that that entails. After seeing the promo packages on Twitter and YouTube I think it is safe to say that both AEW fans and Reality TV fans are indeed in for a treat! In my opinion Rhodes to the top will prove to be a very smart move by Cody and Brandi Rhodes for a multitude of reasons.
One such reason I believe this series will be a boss move is being that wrestling based Reality TV shows have had a successful track record of bringing in new viewers to Pro Wrestling and Sports Entertainment programming that were previously not tuning in. Ad therefore not represented in the demographic numbers. Think back to the debut of Total Divas, the subsequent debut of Total Bellas, Tough Enough predating both, and even most recently Miz & Mrs. While a vast majority of the population still thought of WWE as the WWF, tons of people knew of, heard of, and watched Total Divas which reintroduced WWE to a new generation audience.
Some of the benefits of the new TNT original series will be seen after its debut. Also in my opinion, a Reality TV series will be a great way for AEW to utilize their current TV deal with TNT to create original programming not already featured on the AEW TV show itself. This gives the company more opportunities to use TV time for character development, storytelling, as well as a different way to communicate with its audience immediately following AEW Dynamite. In essence it will give new insight and perspectives perhaps previously overlooked as they relate to The Rhodes.
As previously stated, the series chronicles the trials and tribulations that come along with positions of power. Not to mention the toll Combat Sports like Pro Wrestling and Sports Entertainment take on the body repeatedly. And the added bonus of the unknowns, i.e injuries, budgets, bad blood, opportunities, and backlash. As well as the effects of social media on a career, families, marriage, friendships, and even the ability to provide for said families...Rhodes to the top will show all of these struggles and triumphs in real time.
The real people behind the personas of Cody and Brandi Rhodes. The real heartaches. Real couple. Real friendships. Real families. Real challenges. The real laughs and joys. Mistakes. Goals. Overcoming obstacles. Real life lessons. How far they've come together and how far they're willing to go in the pursuit of dreams becoming reality. Their daily challenges and how they face them. The human elements if you will of Reality TV.
With each new episode both will aim to navigate their new lives not only as successful individuals, but also as husband and wife and expecting first-time parents. As well as their roles in positions of power within the structure of All Elite Wrestling and the taxing nature that comes with the unpredictability of personal lives colliding with business. Relationships will be tested. And of course a new addition to the Rhodes family. All of this and so much more awaits this week with the debut of the new TNT original Reality TV series.
