This most recent episode of WWE NXT UK kicked off the New Year with an almost tangible paradigm shift. The Scottish Viper Piper Niven went toe to toe with Jinny Couture. The winner of this intense bout would go on to get a future opportunity at challenging for the esteemed NXT UK Women's Championship Title. The current NXT UK Women's Champion Kay Lee Ray is no stranger to either competitor and has herself successfully defended her title since winning it against NXT mainstay Toni Storm in 2019. Thus making Kay Lee Ray not only a personal favorite of mine in NXT UK, but also, a longer reigning NXT UK Women's Champion than her counterpart Io Shirai. Io Shirai who is the current reigning NXT Women's Champion defeated both then Champion Charlotte Flair and challenger Rhea Ripley in 2020 for the title. Going forward in 2021, we'll definitely be seeing more of these competitors reviving the life's blood of the NXT UK Brand. The Scottish Viper Piper Niven and The Fashionista Jinny Couture are each immensely talented athletes in their own right. Both worthy of not only NXT UK, but also main roster spots with The WWE in the very near future. From Japan, the U.K, to the Mae Young Classic Tournaments and on to NXT UK, these women have proved their grit, passion, and tenacity within their in ring work. This past Thursday was no exception. But, as a contest of wills goes, as wrestling in a singles match alludes to, there can only be one winner. And to the victor goes the spoils! The hand raised in victory was indeed The Fashionista herself, Jinny Couture.
Jinny Couture not being one to mince words, promises that this partnership will irrevocably change the entire dynamic of NXT UK. The subsequent win over Piper Niven and the unveiling of her partnership with Joseph Conners leaves little room for argument in this case. To say their match was hard fought and opportunity earned doesn't quite do Niven or Couture justice. With almost twenty years of combined experience in the Industry, both ladies have had to claw, break, and fight their way up. Passion and talent possessed all across The U.K due to Athletes like them resulted in the founding of NXT UK. An opportunity that didn't exist 6 years ago. Indelible. Exemplary. Brilliant…
The impressively calculated win placing Couture in a prime position to square off win the reigning and defending NXT UK Women's Champion Kay Lee Ray could have gone either way. However, in Jinny Couture, NXT UK will have some impeccably entertaining segments for The WWE Network. A point of which there is no doubt. In ring talent, versatility, great unique look, mic skills, T.V. ready gimmick. All Couture. And she makes no secret of how high she holds herself whereas her opinions of her counterparts are filled with disparaging disdain.
If resulting in successful, The Fashionista will boast the achievement of dethroning an over two year reigning Champion. The longest reigning NXT UK Champion Kay Lee Ray. A reign of over 490 days. Jinny Couture would then seat herself upon the pinnacle throne and ultimately do all within her power to maintain her position and become the new longest reigning NXT UK Women's Champion herself. A feat that would seat her quite comfortably with the best view of The NXT UK Women's Division. At the top. And with Joseph Conners in tow.
Make no mistake, pretty clothes, nice gear, champagne service, and designer labels aren't all there is to The Fashionista Jinny Couture. Underestimation is a tactic she knows and uses well. This key win against rival Niven to start out the year is only the beginning. However, if Piper Niven has anything to say about it, The Fashionista won't be too comfortable for very long as each aim for the NXT UK Women's Championship Title in 2021…
