AEW has taken to Twitter announcing the highly anticipated first match to kick off the AEW Women's World Championship Elimination Tournament. This Tournament was an answer to a challenge issued by the current AEW Women's Champion Hikaru Shida. An Elimination Tournament where the winner gains the number one contender spot to challenge for the AEW Women's Championship. This is certainly one way to heat things up. Taking to Twitter, AEW killed the proverbial two birds with one stone. They confirmed the rumored return of former AEW Women's Champion Riho. And second they announced that Riho would actually be kicking off the first match of the prestigious Tournament.
Riho will be kicking off the first round as she prepares to go one on one in a singles match. The announcement highlighted the returning Riho as she goes up against the current NWA Women's Champion Serena Deeb. As previously mentioned Serena Deeb is on a high as the current reigning and defending NWA Women's Champion with a two and zero 2021 AEW record thus far. This match will come down to experience versus desire. Will Riho's desire and determination to reclaim what was once hers overtake the veteran experience of Serena Deeb? Or will Serena's world-wide competitive experience prove too much for Riho to overcome?
Both women possess amazing resumes spanning several countries and numerous amounts of T.V time as well as trust equity with fans. Riho helped represent the beginning stages of the AEW Women's Division. Riho had to do battle with Britt Baker, Nyla Rose, Awesome Kong, Hikaru Shida and others to become the first ever AEW Women's Champion. And she's still currently the youngest female champion on record for AEW. Serena Deeb will represent the grit and fortitude of a veteran in the industry. Holding on to the illustrious NWA Women's Championship Title. A title coveted by legendary women like Jazz, Velvet McIntyre, Princess Victoria and others…
