WWE Women's Tag Team Champions Asuka and Charlotte Flair are set to defend their Tag Team Titles at this year's Royal Rumble. In less than a few short days, the highly sought after Tag Titles will be on the line against the former champions Nia Jax and Shayna Baszler. As 2021 continues to gain steam so too does WWE's revived Women's Tag Team Division. A move I'm immensely elated to see happening and with much deserved growth and incredible potential.
With WWE focusing more of its attention on their Women's Tag Team Division as of late, there's really no time like the present to add a little heat. Bam! WWE responds. Boom!
The announcement of this Championship bout does exactly that. It ensures that the division is properly represented on the PPV that kicks off the road to Wrestlemania. Asuka and Charlotte Flair will defend their Tag Titles against the very team they beat at TLC to become champions…
Going off of facts and momentum alone, this match has the ability to be a fan favorite on the PPV. As much as people like to hate on Charlotte Flair for her successes within the WWE, I think the vast majority would rather see Flair retain the titles and Nia Jax lose. As far as continuity within the storyline, Charlotte Flair's extended absence from the WWE brand prior to her TLC return was credited to her adversary Nia Jax. A point that allows this storyline and match potential to come full circle. As it unfolded a spot would open up due to Jax and Baszler. The duo single handedly delivered a beatdown of epic proportions on Lana after she dared to face her bullies and win. The beatdown effectively prevented Lana from teaming with Asuka to challenge Nia Jax and Shayna Baszler at TLC. An act that ultimately provided the means to their Jax and Baszler's downfall as Charlotte Flair would answer Asuka's call.
This shift inserting Flair was also another means of coming full circle. Not only did Jax send Flair packing, but also Flair's own epic battles with the Empress herself, Asuka. Ingenious in my opinion. Going forward the choice is simple Asuka and Charlotte Flair retain and continue to defend the prestigious Tag Titles. Essentially building up the Titles for a new team down the road. A team like, say, Riott Squad?Or, Shayna Baszler and Nia Jax forcefully take them back. And they continue a reign of tyranny down upon the Women's Tag Team Division which is in essence their powerful lure as a formidable heel team.
With Riott Squad slowly rising up the ranks and the addition of Sexy Muscle Friends. The potential teaming of Bianca Belair and Sasha Banks which I'dlove yo see continue. Lacey Evans and Peyton Royce… And I'll throw this out into the WWE Universe, with Sonya Deville back I'd love to see her paired up with Mercedes Martinez on the main roster. That's a killer team. Either way, there's alot being built. Some possibilities that are in your face and others that are flying under the radar. Perhaps with a little slide of hand keeping you distracted until it's the right time to unveil the master plan. With the potential returns of Lana and Becky Lynch. Natalya and Tamina lurking about. Becky Lynch who originally relinquished her Title to Asuka after Money in the Bank. There are numerous moving pieces here.
Asuka will definitely have her focus split heading into the Royal Rumble PPV. Between looking out for Alexa Bliss and wrestling against Nia Jax and Shayna Baszler. Both of whom can boast gaining advantages over the Empress. Charlotte Flair will need to zero in on this Championship match as well considering the mind games being played by Lacey Evans. Evans not so subtle in her pursuit of Ric Flair and getting under the skin of Charlotte. That storyline being almost reminiscent of the Torrie Wilson/Dawn Marie angle from back in the day…
Embarking on the road to Wrestlemania, both Asuka and Charlotte Flair will do battle with many in the divisions to maintain their positions at the top. Heading towards the grandest stage of them all the targets will be secured onto the backs of Asuka and Flair. This match comes down to revenge challenging principles. Bullying versus the desire to overcome. David versus Goliath. Anger and outrage versus tenacity and gumption. Challengers Nia Jax and Shayna Baszler versus Champions Asuka and Charlotte Flair at the thirty fourth Royal Rumble. The winners may very well enter Wrestlemania thirty seven with those beautiful illustrious titles. Tune in this Sunday January 31st for the 2021 WWE Royal Rumble PPV. Don't miss it!
