Tama Tonga will defend the gold at NJPW Fighting Spirit Unleashed.
At NJPW Royal Quest III, NEVER Openweight Champion Tama Tonga teamed up with El Phantasmo and Tanga Loa to defeat Alex Coughlin, Gabe Kidd, and David Finlay. Later in the show, Shingo Takagi picked up a big win by defeating Tomohiro Ishii. NJPW then announced that Takagi will challenge Tonga for the NEVER Openweight Championship at NJPW Fighting Spirit Unleashed on October 28.

Tonga defeated David Finlay at NJPW Destrution in Ryogoku to win the title.
