Taynara Conti signed with WWE in October 2016 despite having no wrestling experience. Conti had a background in judo and Brazilian jiu-jitsu, but WWE wasn't looking for someone with a martial arts background when they hired Conti.
Speaking to Ring The Belle, Conti discussed how she was discovered by WWE and what she thought she was getting herself into.
"WWE found my pictures (online). They were looking for Brazilian talent and they figured out I was just not a model, I had a martial arts background. Someone contacted my friend and was like, 'You have an opportunity.' I was like, 'No. I don't have any idea about WWE. I don't even know what it means.' To be honest, I thought it was something with like prostitution. I had no idea what pro wrestling was before," she said.
Conti was signed by WWE after her first tryout. She competed in the 2017 Mae Young Classic and admitted that she had no idea what she was doing.
She also had trouble with English, but said WWE was helpful in that regard. She also put over Candice LeRae and Dakota Kai for helping her out while in NXT.
Conti was released by WWE on April 15 as part of the company-wide cutbacks. You can view her comments regarding her release by clicking here.
