Tommaso Ciampa Says #DIY Will Implement A Title-Focused Strategy On WWE SmackDown

Tommaso Ciampa and Johnny Gargano have their sights set on WWE Tag Team Championship gold but their respective demeanor on how to accomplish their goal appears to be where they differ.

#DIY's Tommaso Ciampa and Johnny Gargano recently picked up their first victory on WWE Friday Night SmackDown, defeating Angel Garza and Humberto Carrillo of Legado Del Fantasma on May 17. Moreover, they picked up the win in front of the WWE Tag Team Champions A-Town Down Under.

Speaking about their victory with Cathy Kelley on the most recent episode of the WWE SmackDown LowDown, Ciampa made it very clear that he didn't want to get too excited about a singular victory but said that #DIY would be following a new strategy of going after what they want rather than waiting for opportunities to be afforded to them.

"I wouldn't call it, 'a roll,' right? It's been one match," Ciampa began. "The difference is on Monday Night Raw, our approach was to wait, play the long game. That's not the approach here on SmackDown. We are here to take what we want and what we want, you saw it tonight. Grayson Waller, Austin Theory, those Tag Team Titles. That's what we want."

Johnny Gargano, on the other hand, spoke about his history with the incumbent WWE Tag Team Champions but spoke in a much more light-hearted tone about the "agenda" for #DIY as SmackDown Superstars.

"That's the agenda, Cathy. The agenda is, '#DIY: Tag Team Gold 2024.' No matter who steps in our way," said Gargano. "Look, I have a long history with both Austin Theory and Grayson Waller, and that is the endgame. But, any other team on SmackDown that wants to step in #DIY's way, we're going to show them what we're all about."

Johnny and Tommaso then clearly showed that they weren't on the same page as Gargano tried to playfully get Ciampa to say that they were all about the agenda but Ciampa is completely serious and focused on gold.

Since joining the main roster, neither man has yet to win gold as singles competitors or as a team. In NXT, they held all the titles the brand had to offer.
