On the September 17th episode of NXT, Tony D'Angelo confronted Hammerstone backstage and expressed his frustration with the TNA star for failing to hold up his end of the deal. Tensions rose, and D'Angelo said that he would deal with Hammerstone later. The two stars then faced off in a singles match.

Hammerstone and D'Angelo went back and forth, and Femi was shown watching backstage. Hammerstone overpowered D'Angelo, who left the ring to regroup. However, D'Angelo looked disheartened, and he got counted out. Hammerstone was declared the winner, and D'Angelo walked to the back.

Later in the show, Tony D'Angelo said he was afraid, as Femi was a destroyer, and he couldn't beat him. Adriana Rizzo spoke with him near the end of the show and gave him a pep talk. He admitted that he wanted another shot at the title, and Rizzo said that they would get him some special training so he could prepare.
