Tony Khan Says AEW Grand Slam Australia Was Always Planned To Be A TV Event

AEW will travel to Australia on February 15 for the first-ever AEW Grand Slam Australia. The event was originally announced as a stadium show, but moved to a smaller venue as the show drew closer.

The event is set to air on TNT and Max, though it was originally listed at 8 p.m. ET, which would have conflicted with NBA All-Star Saturday. The event is now scheduled to air after the NBA festivities.

Speaking to Scott Fishman of TVInsider, Tony Khan was asked if it was always the plan for the event to air on TV.

"Yes. Having this be a TV event has always been the plan. That’s something that the network wanted. It’s something the network brought to us recently as an opportunity to follow NBA All-Star Saturday. We saw it as a huge opportunity. It was a great vote of confidence for our partners at Warner Brothers Discovery. It will be one of the biggest nights of the year on TNT. It’s a great opportunity given the lead-in," he said.

AEW Grand Slam Australia is set to be headlined by Mariah May defending her AEW Women's Championship against Toni Storm.
