Tony Khan Thinks AEW's Women's Division Will Be Similar To WCW's Cruiserweight Division

Tony Khan has very high hopes for AEW's women's division.

At All Elite Wrestling's 'Double Or Nothing' ticket announcement party outside of the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on Thursday, storylines were set up, matches for 'Double Or Nothing' were either announced or teased and new members of AEW were introduced. At the rally, the likes of Nyla Rose and Kylie Rae were added to the roster and Yuka Sakazaki and Aja Kong were announced for 'Double Or Nothing'. Kylie Rae and Nyla Rose are joining Brandi Rhodes, Britt Baker and Penelope Ford as members of AEW's women's division. The President of All Elite Wrestling, Tony Khan recently joined Wrestling Observer Radio and shared his excitement about AEW's women's division.

"I’m also really excited about what we’re gonna do with our women’s division.” He said. “Our women’s division… I’ve compared it and this is what I’ve told people and people have gotten really excited about this -- [I’ve compared it to] WCW’s Cruiserweight division, where you’ve got a division of workers and they’re gonna bring a really exciting fast-paced style to a national audience and people are gonna get excited about it, and I think, similar to how the cruiserweight division had a big population of luchadores, I think there are going to be a number of Joshi performers from Japan and from around the world and I think that [our] women’s division will be really exciting. We’re all pretty pumped about that and always wanted to do that and that’s why it was good to announce some really big names that we’re excited about for our women’s division.”

Khan also spoke about the company's tag team division and stated that he believes tag team wrestling has a chance to make a big comeback with The Young Bucks, S.C.U., Pentagon Jr. and Fenix and 'Best Friends' (Chuckie T and Trent Beretta) leading the charge.

“I’m really excited about what we’re gonna do with the tag team division. I really think tag team wrestling has a chance to make a huge, huge comeback, and I think we have a chance to be a really big part of it -- The Young Bucks are one of the all-time great tag teams, and we brought out the Best FriendsWe’ve got S.C.U., Penta and Fenix and a lot more to come in terms of tag teams and exciting stuff there, and I think we’re gonna really put an emphasis on that." Khan explained.
