Trent Provides An Update On His Recovery, Reveals He Struggled With Sleep Apnea Prior To Surgery

Trent provides an update on his recovery following neck fusion surgery.

Many wrestlers have had neck fusion surgery through the years, it has become so synonymous with professional wrestling that some even referred to it as, “wrestler’s surgery.” Names like Edge and Kurt Angle have had this surgery and gone on to wrestle full careers.

Recently, Trent of AEW’s Best Friends tag team underwent this surgery and while appearing on the Rasslin’ podcast, he revealed that he's not sure when he will be coming back as it is just a matter of waiting for his bones to grow together.

"I just gotta wait for my bones to grow together. Do you know what I mean? They put the plate they put the plates in and they take the discs out and then in between they put, he said, it's like a crushed coral. I don't understand why it's not just floating around... Then the bone grows into where the crushed coral is. I think it's like a little disc thing with the coral in it."

Trent also revealed that prior to the surgery, he was battling sleep apnea which he says has disappeared following his surgery, believing that it might have had to do with the extra bone growth.

"I got my neck fused. I had so much extra bone growth and stuff, my discs were crushed and my bones were starting to fuse themselves together," said Trent. "I was getting sleep apnea. I was waking up gasping for air in the middle of the night and sometimes, I’d have trouble swallowing my own spit and I just thought it was nothing, but post-surgery — I guess I had so many extra bones and shit growing in my [throat] that my sleep apnea was gone."

While Trent is still recovering, Best Friends have continued on and have added Wheeler Yuta to their ranks as well as rejoined the CHAOS faction. Tonight, Rocky Romero and Chuck Taylor, two men that are used to teaming with Trent, will go against the Young Bucks on AEW Dynamite.
