McGregor and Chandler were long rumored to fight one another at UFC 300 on June 29, 2024. CEO Dana White put those rumors to bed just days ago, as he noted that McGregor would likely be making his return to UFC in the final third of the year. McGregor and Chandler are set to face off in a different capacity though, as the two stars will coach seperate teams in The Ultimate Fighter 31.

Chandler last fought in November 2022, where he faced Dustin Poirier at UFC 281. Meanwhile, McGregor last competed at UFC 264 in July 2021, where he suffered a broken tibia in a match against Poirier.
