Shawn Michaels came out of retirement for WWE Crown Jewel 2018 to team with Triple H against The Brothers of Destruction (Kane & Undertaker).
All four men had a long history together, including Undertaker retiring Michaels by defeating him at WrestleMania 26.
The match quickly fell apart and became a comedy of errors and unfortunate events.
"We've talked Shawn Michaels, who said he was never going to wrestle again. Had no intentions of (wrestling again), and did not want to. We're like, 'You can do this in your sleep. Come on.' How many years of ring time (have we had together)? 'We can do this in our sleep. This is going to be easy money.' We talked Shawn into it, finally. Ain't nobody sweating it. I don't think we started talking about anything until intermission (that night). There wasn't any thought of, 'Hey, what do you think about this.' We just rolled up into Saudi Arabia like, 'We're about to tear the roof off. This going to be awesome.' It started out bad and went completely off the rails," Undertaker recalled on his Six Feet Under podcast.
"We're all pissed. Everybody is pissed. Shawn is pissed because he came out of retirement. [Triple H] is pissed because he tore his (pec). He had a WrestleMania match that year. [Kane] loses his mask. I lose my pride. I'm already filming Last Ride. It's going to be part of the documentary. I remember them coming at me. I had to sit by myself for a minute to process what we had just done, or didn't do. They're coming up to me to get my thoughts. I'm like, 'No. Just leave me alone. I need a minute. Leave me alone.' I don't think we ever got an interview. It was awful. Everybody was apologizing for everybody else. It was a complete disaster and trainwreck. It's another example of how difficult it becomes without reps. When you're not doing it every day.
"It went from one extreme to the next once I processed everything. It became hilarious. Not only did all that happen, and we did the job. Insult to injury."
Since the match, Shawn has not wrestled,Triple H was able to make it to WrestleMania 35 to face Batista, and Kane has only appeared in the 2021 Royal Rumble.
Undertaker would go on to have a handful of matches before retiring after WrestleMania 36.
