Undertaker Denies 'Smashing' Chris Kanyon With A Chair Because He Was Gay, Says He Never Swung A Chair Maliciously

Undertaker talks about his reputation for handing out stiff chair shots.

The wrestling business is different today but chair shots to the head used to be as commonplace as a body slam. Throughout his 30 years as a WWE Superstar, Undertaker has delivered some wicked chair shots to the head on a who's who of professional wrestlers.

One such wrestler was Maven, who was on the receiving end of an ass-whooping by Big Evil after Maven got a surprise elimination in the 2002 Royal Rumble, sending the Undertaker to the floor with a dropkick to the back.

Maven was recently a guest on Undertaker's Six Feet Under podcast and the topic of steel chair shots was discussed. During the discussion, 'Taker defended himself by saying that he always swung a chair the same way no matter who was on the other end of the chair and he never hit anyone with any mal-intent.

"In my defense, go back and look at the whole scope of how I swung a chair. I hate everybody the same. There was no malice. There was no, 'Oh, I'm going to try and hurt the greenhorn.' If you look at all my chair shots when we could hit -- Now, granted, at the time, we did not know about CTE. I came up in a generation where that's how you swung a chair and I've been accused and I'm getting a little hot about it," he said.

Undertaker would go on to address accusations of hitting Chris Kanyon in the head with a vicious chair shot because the former WCW United States Champion identified as being gay. Undertaker vehemently denies this and furthermore claims he didn't even know that Kanyon was gay until years later.

"I’ve been accused of smashing Kanyon with a chair because he was gay. I didn’t even know he was gay. I didn’t even know until years later. I couldn't care less [that Kanyon was gay] but there's people out there that have created that rumor, 'Oh, Undertaker smashed him.' Undertaker swung a chair the way Undertaker swung a chair. If I swung a chair at somebody, the way I swung it, I'd expect the same one back. Watch me and Triple H. He beat the crap out of me. That's just the way I learned how to swing a chair."

Maven defended Undertaker as being tremendously safe with him and said that even though it's an unpopular opinion, care shots the way he was taught to take them are relatively safe.
