The Undertaker: I Respect CM Punk For Giving MMA A Shot

The Undertaker comments on CM Punk trying MMA.

In December 2014, CM Punk announced he had signed a multi-fight deal with the UFC. Punk had trained in jiu-jitsu before beginning his MMA training with Duke Roufus at Roufusport MMA.

Punk fought twice in the UFC, losing by submission to Mickey Gall in September 2016, and then losing by unanimous decision to Mike Jackson. The loss to Jackson was overturned to a no contest after Jackson failed a drug test for marijuana.

Speaking to Demetrious Johnson on the MightyCast, The Undertaker commented on Punk's foray into MMA.

"One thing with Punk that I do respect is the fact that he tried it. He had a huge name in wrestling before he tried mixed martial arts. He had a lot to lose because [wrestling] was his money maker and then you go over [to MMA] and get your ass handed to you. I had a lot of respect for him and the fact that he gave it a shot. It was something he wanted to do. He did it. It didn't work out and he's back where he should be and everything is right in the world," said Undertaker.

Demetrious noted that he didn't know who Punk was or if he had a combat sports background when he joined UFC.

Punk is set to return to the ring at WWE SummerSlam when he faces Drew McIntyre.
