More discourse about wrestling rings.
AEW Grand Slam Australia sparked plenty of controversy in the wrestling world. Many critics claimed that the company had to get loaned a ring for the show, and the ring they used was significantly smaller than usual. Fightful Select then reported an update that debunked this speculation.
Fightful's Sean Ross Sapp then took to Twitter/X and asked wrestlers to name the worst ring that they had ever been in. AEW's Anthony Boweens and various others responded.
Back in 2013 there was a ring in Pennsylvania that had padding made up of a few rugs with stop signs/other random flat metal things to fill the gaps. My ankle almost broke on a suplex because the ring was so hard.

I trained in a ring that had a big ass hole in the boards and an unwrapped cable for a bottom rope --

Still not the worst to bump in lol
I reffed in a ring that was literally made of wood. Not just the boards underneath…

Back in 2015, I broke my shoulder in this piece of garbage ring it was the worst I’ve ever been in. It was bowed in and had no give to it. I did a simple roll and broke my shoulder on an exposed beam.

Not one person took a bump on the entire show https://t.co/4ya8TtJLub pic.twitter.com/7OyEMNHRD8
Worst ring I have ever been in.. Rudy Boy Gonzales's ring Royal Rumble 2017 EVOLVE Weekend in San Antonio. Lost 2 of the 3 ropes the first night.. 1st rope break cost Peter Kazza his career. He never wrestled after that match. 2nd rope break which was the middle rope.. broke…

I remember working in a boxing ring, it was like falling on concrete. It was also a 20x20 so it was much easier to get blown up. My favorite ring was @BTWwrestling I believe it was one of the wrings used for WrestleMania 2 featured below ------------ pic.twitter.com/aOEuyKrWlX

I worked in a ring that used thin carpet padding & the boards were warped so they would slide and or creating holes in the ring

A stained & smelly canvas covered the monstrosity & the ropes couldn’t be fully tightened so you had to swap them around w least risky on top
Indys ----
I have trained in 4 different rings. Theres 1 in san antonio i would say was the worst so far. Always a board sticking up or multiple, ropes were never right. It was uhh interesting, and most painful i experienced for bumps. Especially on cold days------.

I trained the last 2 years of Wahoo McDaniel’s Indy run & school. That ring was SOOO hard and it was cupped like a bowl from the years of use. All the supports were bent and some had been rewelded from previous breaks. The mat was some kind of hard rubber flooring he got from an…

I used to do wrestling the upper Cumberland of TN when I was 18. It was some bars attached to a middle bar, there was some pieces of plywood and some pieces of carpet, and a canvas on top. The ropes were garden hoses wrapped in electrical tape. That’s what I trained in.

The ring I wrestled in from 2017-2019 was an old boxing ring “converted” into a wrestling ring, the padding was nearly non existent and was genuinely falling apart, the ropes weren’t cable they were thick actual rope, the ring was like 14ft and had one old spring in the middle. pic.twitter.com/S5TVlhPKRb
— shaggy (@shaggysson) February 18, 2025
A 14 foot ring with a spring. However the spring was so bouncy and loose that running ropes was akin to a trampoline with plywood. Except when you'd bump the ring would then bottom out, so it felt like bumping on the floor

My first two years of training were done in a boxing ring and wow that was rough.

Any 6 sided ring is a tough bump.
Mostly any ring in Mexico.
Now that I think about it, I complain a lot….. maybe it’s me…..
