Mene Gene was on during the commercial break of Smackdown Live.
During Smackdown, a commercial for Mountain Dew Kickstart aired featuring comedian and actor Kevin Hart and the WWE Hall of Fame announcer Mean Gene Okerlund. In the commercial, Hart mimics the interview style of the wrestlers from Okerlund's heyday.
In an interview with Sports Illustrated, Okerlund said Hart channeled the Macho Man Randy Savage very well and he enjoyed being involved with the old school style promo. Okerlund also revealed The Rock helped him get the job on the commercial.
“I think a good word was put in to Kevin by my very dear, close, personal longtime friend Dwayne Johnson. These guys work together, they talk on a daily basis, and maybe they thought ‘Mean’ Gene was the right guy to hold the stick in this Mountain Dew Kickstart commercial,” said Okerlund.
The attire worn by Kevin Hart caught the eye of NXT wrestler Velveteen Dream who tweeted a picture of Hart with the words "Gimmick Infringement."
