Gunther will defend the gold on the August 21 episode of WWE Raw.
As announced on the August 14 episode of WWE Raw, Chad Gable will defend the WWE Intercontinental Championship against Chad Gable on August 21. Gable earned a title shot by defeating Ricochet, Tommaso Ciampa, and Matt Riddle on the August 7 episode. In recent weeks, Gable has been feuding with Gunther. He lasted five minutes with the champion on the July 31 episode of WWE Raw before Gunther demanded more time and defeated him.
Gable scored more momentum when he defeated Gunther's Imperium stablemate Giovanni Vinci on the August 14 episode.

Plus, Drew McIntyre and Matt Riddle will face The New Day (Xavier Woods & Kofi Kingston). The New Day returned on the August 7 episode and defeated the Viking Raiders (Erik and Ivar). McIntyre reluctantly teamed up with Riddle to defeat the Viking Raiders on August 14. Riddle said he wanted to chase the tag team titles with McIntyre, and when the New Day challenged them to a match, Riddle accepted.
