Shinsuke Nakamura will defend the gold.
On the January 3rd episode of WWE SmackDown, WWE United States Champion Shinsuke Nakamura defeated Andrade. After the bell, LA Knight ran to the ring and took the fight to Nakamura. He made it clear that he was coming for the title that Nakamura beat him to win at WWE Survivor Series.
Later in the show, LA Knight announced that he would challenge Shinsuke Nakamura for the WWE United States Championship on the January 10th episode of WWE SmackDown.
