Evolve Parts Ways With Joey Styles After Sexual Assault Joke

Evolve ended its working relationship with its announcer Joey Styles shortly after the end of Evolve 72 tonight.

With the main event of Evolve 72 about to begin, Styles began interacting on the microphone with heel manager Stokely Hathaway. As Styles and Hathaway exchanged words, Styles made a comment about how he was told by Evolve booker Gabe Sapolsky that he was not to make any political jokes on the show. Styles poked fun at the idea that he would do as he was told while he had a live microphone on a live show, then directed his attention to ring announcer Joanna Rose.

"Joanna, you look great tonight. And if our next president were here tonight he'd want to grab you by the --." Styles stopped just short of fully repeating the last word in Donald Trump's infamous line from a 2005 recording where Trump said he could "grab [women] by the pussy" without their permission.

While the main event match between Drew Gulak and Timothy Thatcher was taking place, Sapolsky apologized on Twitter for Styles' remark.

Minutes after the Evolve event ended, Sapolsky tweeted that the promotion and Styles had parted ways.

Styles had been doing commentary for the entire event alongside Lenny Leonard for Evolve's first live broadcast on Floslam.tv.

Styles worked for WWE as Vice President of Media and Digital Content until August 8. He was released from that job following some critical comments he made about the WWE product in a Facebook video.

The former ECW announcer is still at the moment scheduled to do commentary on future dates for Chikara and Beyond Wrestling.

UPDATE:  FloSlam Tweeted their approval of Gabe Sapolsky's decision to fire Styles.
