Floyd Mayweather Apologizes For Using Homophobic Slur

Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor had many heated exchanges during their four city media tour to promote their super fight.

Mayweather used a homophobic slur against the Irishman during the London stop of the tour and now the fighter is apologizing for his statement.

“I spoke on disrespect,” Mayweather said to ESPN. “Like I said before, it’s certain boundaries we just don’t cross. It’s OK if he wants to say certain things. Even in the press tour when I said something, I didn’t want to be negative towards lesbians or gays when I said something to him. So, I apologize.”

The homophobic slur that Mayweather used against McGregor was the word “f*gg*t.”

Despite the apology, the boxing great still wants to get revenge on McGregor for some of the things the UFC Lightweight Champion said about the African American community during the media tour.

“I just thought about all our different leaders,” Mayweather said. “Martin Luther King, Malcolm X. They went on the front line for me and my family and all my loved ones. Like I said before, this stuff still goes on. But I’m strong, I’m smart, patient. And come Aug. 26, I’ll be the same person — smart, strong, patient.”

Conor McGregor versus Floyd Mayweather takes place on Saturday, August 26 from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, with a post-show podcast to follow.
