After experiencing wars against Ganigan Lopez and Pedro Guevara, Ken Shiro made quick work of Gilberto Pedroza, retaining the WBC light flyweight title in the process.
Shiro stopped Pedroza in four rounds in the co-main event of a major boxing card in Japan's Bunka Gym in Yokohama, getting his 12th professional win and further stating his claim as the best boxer at 108 pounds in the world.
The stoppage came after a mostly uneventful first three rounds where Shiro started the fourth round with a big overhand right seconds into it. Shiro drilled Pedroza with a left hook to the body and followed with two right hands to the head that left Pedroza on one knee. The fight was stopped by referee Laurence Cole 1:12 into the fourth round.
Shiro won the title back in May by beating Lopez via majority decision. Shiro followed the title with his first title defense, another majority decision win, this time against Guevara. Pedroza's seven-fight win streak was snapped with the loss to Shiro and his pro boxing record drops to 18-4-2.
The main event of the Bunka Gym boxing card saw Naoya Inoue retain his WBO super flyweight title by knocking out Yoan Boyeaux. Other notable fights on the undercard include two-time Olympian Satoshi Shimizu walking away with the OPBF featherweight title after beating Eduardo Mancito and undefeated bantamweight prospect Takuma Inoue, Naoya's younger brother, beating Kentaro Masuda.
