The heavyweight title clash between British boxing star Anthony Joshua and WBO mandatory challenger Oleksandr Usyk has been made official.
Matchroom Boxing officially announced that the matchup will take place on September 25 from Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London, England. The near 63,000 seat venue will host the mega-fight between the 2012 Olympic gold medalists. Joshua was expected to face fellow champion, Tyson Fury, in a title unification bout, but after Deontay Wilder won an arbitration case to force a trilogy matchup with Fury, the focus shifted to the matchup with Usyk.
Joshua is the current WBA, WBO, IBF, and IBO heavyweight champion sporting a 24-1 record as a professional. His last outing came in December 2020 against Kubrat Pulev, a matchup he won via a ninth-round knockout. Usyk is a former undisputed cruiserweight champion and is undefeated as a pro at 18-0. His last appearance was against Derek Chisora on Halloween 2020 where he won the WBO Inter-Continental heavyweight title via a unanimous decision.
