Former UFC fighter and current Bellator MMA star Erick Silva has been competing for over a decade now, having battled some of the best that MMA has to offer.
However, both Silva and members of his family are in a much bigger battle, as they have been diagnosed with the coronavirus.
“We’re all fine. Our biggest concern is lack of information and anxiety. Everyone is more at ease now. We’ve asked the people who work in the house not to come. We stayed only among ourselves for two weeks in order for it to go away. We followed the doctor’s orders,” Silva said to Combate (via Lucas Rezende of Bloody Elbow).
Silva also states that it was his five month old son, Carlos, who showed the first symptoms of the coronavirus.
The fighter says that once Carlos got the coronavirus, it eventually spread to the rest of his family.
“The whole family caught it," Erick said. “I’m staying at my in-laws’ home and we wall showed symptoms. The curious thing is that we have people from all ages. From my five-month-old, my 10-year-old, to people who are 23, 35, 52 and 58. We all showed symptoms, but the biggest problem was in the beginning, when we started to show them, because we didn’t know what it was. It started with my wife. The first day she had headaches, chills, and we paid no mind. We thought it was some kind of allergy. You never pay any mind in the beginning. She couldn’t smell or taste anything. Then it was my mother-in-law, she lost the sense of smell and taste, too. Then it was me. Then everyone started having the same symptoms.”
WorldOMeters reports that 1,363,123 people have been diagnosed with the coronavirus worldwide, with 76,383 passing due to the virus.
