History was made when the UFC and One Championship competed a trade that sent former UFC Flyweight Champion Demetrious Johnson to One, while One Welterweight Champion Ben Askren was sent to the UFC.
Askren is a training partner of UFC Welterweight Champion Tyron Woodley and Askren says he’ll never fight the champ.
“Me and Tyron aren’t fighting, it’s simple,” Askren said on The MMA Hour. “We are not fighting. We are not fighting — no.”
The UFC newest star also recently took the UFC to task on Twitter, wondering just when the promotion will announce his arrival:
Hey @ufc are you gonna make an announcement? You are like that guy with a GF who’s embarrassed to tell his buddies even when everyone knows! Ha ha ha you know you love me.

Speaking of the UFC, it has been revealed by UFC President Dana White that when Askren does debut in the UFC, it will come against a top five ranked opponent.
“I don’t know; we’re still working on it,” White told TMZ Sports. “Obviously, he’s gonna come into the welterweight division. 170 pounds. He’s undefeated, he’s their champion. So we’re excited about it. He’s definitely gonna fight somebody in the top five.”
Current ranked in the UFC Welterweight Division’s top five (in order) are interim welterweight champion Colby Covington, Darren Till, Rafael Dos Anjos, Stephen Thompson and Robbie Lawler.
