Floyd Mayweather has the opportunity to hold a professional boxing record of 50-0 if he can get past UFC Lightweight Champion Conor McGregor later this month.
Bob Arum is the head of Top Rank Promotions and he says that Mayweather doesn’t deserve the 50-0 mark if that fiftieth win comes over McGregor.
“No, he doesn’t deserve (the 50-0) record, because he’s not fighting a fighter,” Arum told TMZ Sports. “He’s not fighting a real boxer. McGregor is a good MMA guy, but it’s a different sport.”
While a win for Mayweather would make him 50-0, a win for McGregor would make his pro boxing record a solid 1-0.
Arum would goes as far as to say that the McGregor vs. Mayweather fight isn’t even a real fight in the end.
“It’s not a fight, for Christ’s sake. And three weeks later, De La Hoya’s doing a hell of a fight, (Gennady) Golovkin and (Canelo) Alvarez. That’s a good fight,” says Arum.
Conor McGregor versus Floyd Mayweather takes place on Saturday, August 26 from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, with a post-show podcast to follow.
