Undisputed super middleweight champion, Canelo Álvarez, is planning on taking some time away from the ring to get his body healthy for 2023.
Álvarez spoke with reporters during the post-fight conference following his unanimous decision victory over unified middleweight champ, Gennadiy Golovkin in their trilogy bout on Saturday night and revealed he will need to get surgery on his left wrist, which could keep him out of action until next spring.
“I’m gonna take my time,” Alvarez said (h/t Boxing Scene). “My body needs [rest]. You know, last year I fought four times in 11 months. So, that is why. But I need to take my time a little bit. Maybe May, September, I don’t know. But take my time. I had these issues since the Caleb Plant fight. So, [I said], ‘Ah, it’s OK. It’s OK. Let it [go]. Let it [go].’ And then training started, and it’s a problem, problem, problem. And I need surgery.”
