John Lineker, who was easily one of the most violent and exciting fighters in MMA, was cut by the UFC last week.
UFC President Dana White points to a history of weigh-in misses and other infractions as to why Lineker is no longer with the promotion.
“I think it was because he hasn’t made weight a few times,” White said to TSN, “and I just know that the matchmakers were super frustrated with him. The guy wasn’t being professional.”
Lineker did move up from flyweight to bantamweight due to a history of missing weight, but there were still some weight related issues for the fighter even after the jump in weight classes.
The now released Lineker also pulled out of a bout against Rob Font at UFC Fight Night Greenville and that situation also didn’t adhere him to the UFC brass.
“When you don’t make it to the Octagon neither, a bunch of times, it’s a waste of everybody’s time, energy and money,” White said. “We expect guys to be professional, do what they’re supposed to do, show up. The matchmakers were done, they had it.”
There has been no comment from Lineker or one of his representatives yet on his release from the UFC.
