Dana White Says GSP Not Fighting UFC 229 Main Event Winner

Former two division UFC champion Georges St. Pierre recently stated that he would like to fight the winner of the UFC 229 main event, which pits UFC Lightweight Champion Khabib Nurmagomedov against another former two division UFC champion in Conor McGregor.

UFC President Dana White, noting how GSP has already given up two titles, says the Canadian superstar isn’t getting that fight.

“Yeah, that’s probably not going to happen,” White told MMA Junkie. “He gave up the 170-pound belt, he gave up the 185-pound belt. I mean it’s like – no. Pick a division.”

GSP had previously held the UFC Welterweight Title and the UFC Middleweight Title, relinquishing the welterweight strap four years ago and giving up the middleweight strap a few months after winning it.

White wants to see GSP back in the Octagon and would like him to fight in Toronto at UFC 231.

“No, we haven’t talked, but it sounds like we will,” White said. “Toronto makes sense. Toronto wouldn’t be bad.”

UFC 229 takes place on Saturday, October 6 from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada with Khabib Nurmagomedov and Conor McGregor headlining. Fightful is going to be providing live coverage of the event, with a post-show podcast to follow.
