Dana White Says Jessica Eye Gets Next Women’s Flyweight Title Shot

Valentina Shevchenko became the UFC Women’s Flyweight Champion in the co-main event of UFC 231, defeating former UFC Women’s Strawweight Champion Joanna Jedzrejczyk by unanimous decision.

It would appear that the champion has her first title defense and that challenger is coming in the form of #1 ranked Jessica Eye.

UFC President Dana White revealed after UFC Fight Night Brooklyn that Eye was getting the title shot against Shevchenko.

“I think we said that we were going to do a fight with Jessica Eye. I think Eye is next,” said White (via MMA Weekly).

There is no word yet on when the potential title fight will go down, as both women were last seen in action at the aforementioned UFC 231 card.

Eye has been undefeated since dropping to flyweight, having beaten the trio of Kalindra Faria, Jessica-Rose Clark and Katlyn Chookagian. Shevchenko has also been undefeated at flyweight, defeating Priscila Cachoeira and the aforementioned Jedrzejczyk.

If the bout actually does come to fruition, it would mark the first time the UFC Women’s Flyweight Title has been defended since it came into existence in December of 2017. Nicco Montano, who was the first UFC Women’s Flyweight Champion, never defended the title, but was stripped of the gold last year.
