Dana White Wants Shogun Rua To "Retire" After UFC 255

Mauricio “Shogun” Rua suffered a second round TKO loss to Paul Craig at UFC 255 and if Dana White has his way, UFC 255 will be the final time that Rua fights.

White, who says that Rua looked like a shell of his former self, wants to see the former light heavyweight champion retire.

“I hope that tonight is his last night – I would like to see him retire,” White said at the UFC 255 post-fight news conference (via Mike Bohn of MMA Junkie). “Just being honest: ‘Shogun’ didn’t look like ‘Shogun’ to me tonight. ‘Shogun’ looked old and like a shell of his former self tonight. So yeah, I’d like to see him hang it up, hopefully.”

Rua has won five of his last eight in the UFC, with those wins coming over Antonio Rogerio Nogueira (twice), Corey Anderson, Gian Villante and Tyson Pedro.

The former light heavyweight champion still has two fights left on his UFC contract.

“I think he has two fights left on his deal,” White said. “But I would like to see him retire.”
