However, one thing Pineda won’t do is go down without a fight and that is why the fighter is appealing the drug test result.
PFL CEO Peter Murray issued the following statement on the matter to MMA Fighting:
“The PFL believes all athletes deserve due process and will, within reason, provide the fighters who earned their way into the finals every opportunity to compete on New Year’s Eve. The League, as always, will abide by the final ruling of the commission.”
In an attempt to curtail any other possible issues from affecting the season two finals, a series of seven alternates have been chosen for each weight class to step in just in case one or more of the finalists cannot compete on New Years Eve:
Featherweight — Alex Gilpin
Women’s Lightweight — Sarah Kaufman
Lightweight — Chris Wade
Welterweight — Glaico Franca (Second alternate is Chris Curtis)
Light Heavyweight — Bozigit Ataev
Heavyweight — Denis Goltsov
PFL Season 2 Finals takes place on Tuesday, December 31 from the Hulu Theater At Madison Square Garden with Sarah Kaufman and Larissa Paheco headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, which airs live on ESPN 2.
