WBC lightweight champion Devin Haney will defend his title against former IBF junior lightweight champion Joseph Diaz Jr. on December 4 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
ESPN's Mike Coppinger was the first to report the news of the matchup, although Diaz Jr. and Haney engaged in a spat over Twitter with the following tweets that suggest Haney's team wanting a rematch clause is the reason the bout agreements aren't officially signed yet. The Haney-Diaz Jr. matchup came about after Diaz Jr.'s initial November 27 bout with Ryan Garcia was cancelled after Garcia was forced to get surgery after suffering a hand injury in training.

Haney is 26-0 currently as a pro and is coming off of a unanimous decision victory against three-division world champion Jorge Linares back in May. Diaz Jr. on the other hand is also coming off of a unanimous decision win back in July where he beat Javier Fortuna to become the interim WBC lightweight champion.
